Another PDW Blog Train

Well, I'm back from a fabulous, relaxing weekend in Boston and straight into reality - taking children to and from school, washing, cooking etc. etc. Jetlag so far isn't as bad as I feared - I did wonder around somewhat zombie like on Monday, but after 11 hours sleep I felt much better yesterday and this morning although it was tough dragging myself out of bed I feel fine now!

Anyway, it's time for another Plain Digital Wrapper blog train!! This one is packed full of brag books pages made with May's collaboration kit, Through My Window: A Boy's Life - although aimed at boys, I think it is extremely versatile and great for lots of different pages. (not all shown in the preview!)

This time tomorrow I will be almost on a plane!! Woohoo!!!!

Can't wait!

Not only do I get to go away without children, see my husband and get to see Boston for the first time, I also am hopefully going to meet with one of my fellow PDW designers on the Friday! So, fingers crossed I should have lots of lovely photos when I get back on Monday - that's assuming I am awake enough on Monday after an overnight flight to actually focus at all.

Two More Days to Go....

.....Only two more days of letters

....and only two more full days here in the UK for me before I get to go out to Boston, MA to see Tim for the first time in three weeks. WOOOHOOO! Can't wait - Granny and Grandpa are looking after Katie and Graeme so I can go on my own. I've already put aside 6 books to keep me company in the airport/on the flight.

A request next - if you have some pennies left over from NSD and want to get some quick scrapping done, PDW has some fantastic quickpages for you. Reason I want you to buy? It's an in-house competition - designers vs. creative team. Each team was given a kit and we had to produce some QPs with it - both teams have produced more than 20 gorgeous pages and they are up for sale now. The money raised will be donated to charity at the end of it all and the teams get points for every set that is purchased. Obviously I would love it if you buy the designers set - but I want to be fair here so am linking to both sets. They cost $5 each which for 20 easy, co-ordinating pages seems an absolute bargain - you could produce an album in a morning!

Drizzly Bank Holiday

What is it with the UK? It seems like every bank holiday Monday we get rain. Today wasn't too bad - the drizzle didn't start till 11am, but since then it has drizzled on and off all day.

Had a lovely weekend though - Alison came and stayed with us. I've known her for 30 years and we are still good friends, even if we only see each other 3 or 4 times a year. We went swimming with the children in the "big" pool - what Graeme and Katie call the big leisure pool - less of a swimming pool and more of a "fun" pool with water slides, things that squirt water and currents that drag you round in circles.

Then today we went to the May Fayre in town - Katie's pre-school had a stall there so we spent lots of money on cake, hook-a-prize and getting Katie's face painted (pink butterfly - what a surprise; she really is a girly girl!) They also got to go on the bouncy castle, trampoline, bought some second hand books and did lots of little "games" where you won a lolly.

Today's letter is "X" - I think it's just the one today as I haven't missed any other days. How many of you will keep coming back to my blog after "Z" I wonder?

Today has been a gloriously sunny day, but unfortunately Katie hasn't been feeling well today - she has a cough and yucky nose and a slight temperature (I'm pretty certain it isn't any form of flu though). Generally feeling ick - so no preschool for her and no break for me - but lots of cuddles.

We really are nearly at the end of the alphabet - just a few more letters to go. I will try and upload them over the weekend (one a day), but no promises as it is a Bank Holiday weekend here, so we could be busy!

....today was a "catch up on paperwork and things to do for PGCE in September" day!! I have now done 3 days of observations in three different schools, filled out what feels like twenty different forms, ordered five books (the ones about general teaching - still need the list for physics) and have also managed to organise a week's placement in a primary school for June. PHEW! Went to the primary school today to introduce myself and show them my CRB form and so on. So, I think that I am now up to date with what I need to do - just need to actually do the week's placement and answer some questions / write an essay about my observations. All this and I haven't even started the course!

Tuesday Tumblings

Well - I haven't! But the children seem to be even more accident prone than usual today - all minor bumps, bruises and scrapes - but it does seem to mean lots and lots of crying and squawking and general "I need Mummy"!

Other than that, it has been a normal day - pre-school and school runs, some cleaning, some playing, some washing, some cooking....... doesn't my life just sound so grand?

I need an early night tonight as I have another day-in-a-school tomorrow - this time about 40 minutes drive away (assuming the motorway isn't *too* bad!), so I wonder what the children will be like there?

Weekend slips away....

Yesterday was really quite lovely - despite heavy rain overnight, the day was sunny and warm. We went to the library in the morning, had roast chicken for lunch and then Graeme went to a friend's party in the afternoon while I took Katie swimming - she can't swim yet, but she loves splashing about and trying to swim.

Today looks like the sun is shining again (and yet it rained overnight last night too - kept me awake!) and Graeme has another party to go to - whilst Katie and I go to a friend's house for lunch - yum :)

Today was interesting to put it mildly - I went into a school today. For those that don't know, I have been accepted onto a PGCE (teacher training) course starting in September - but before I start I need to go and do a couple of days in some different secondary schools to see the kind of things I may be up against. I knew before I went to this school that it was likely to be tough, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Detentions were handed out in most classes, the noise level was loud, and the chemistry practical was, well, erm.... well... noone got hurt! But, there were some fabulous kids, some great questions, and at least some of them learnt something that was on the syllabus. (although I did love the answer of "kryptonite" for a chemical starting with c that makes plants green - the teacher's unfazed reaction of "that starts with a K" was priceless). Has it put me off teaching? No. But it has made me realise that teaching isn't all about the children just learning the subject.

The worst bit was actually the getting up and out of the house - I needed to leave at 7.15am - 15 minutes before Graeme normally wakes up! But I managed it - got both children dressed and out the house and dropped off at a friend's for breakfast and school. But I *am* tired now - been a long day, with a lot of noise and a lot to take in - so now it is time to put children to bed and to chill out.......wine and DVD here I come....ooo and I think there might be some chocolate in the cupboard too :)

Am I strange?

I *love* my washing machine (sad, aren't I?) - I managed to wash our duvet yesterday - not the duvet cover, but the duvet itself - a 15 tog king-size duvet - and it fits in the machine!!!!! Mind you, I think it was one of the things it was invented for as it has a "duvet" cycle along with cottons, synthetics etc. Don't know what I'm going to do when it dies as Dyson have stopped producing it, and as far as I know, there are no other big domestic washing machines. Means the bedding smelt and felt extra specially clean last night - mmmm.....clean sheets......

Anyway, lets leave my oddness behind and find the next letter, which I believe should be "M":

Still Busy

I can't believe how much I got done yesterday - this sunshine is really putting me in the spring cleaning mood! I cleaned the kitchen, mopped all the floors, mowed the lawn (all by myself, with the petrol mower, without killing anyone or anything!), did some washing, took the big mat out from by the door and took it outside to clean it, cleaned out the shoe cupboard and I think that was it. All this and doing all the other normal "mum" jobs!

Yesterday was the first day back at school for the children, which gave me some time for exciting things - like cleaning(!) - the computer room now has slightly less dust and cat hair all over it. No idea why Tilly likes sleeping in here so much - but currently she is one of her favourite positions - curled up between my keyboard and monitor. She is a cat who likes to be around people, so perhaps it just indicates that I spend too much of my time in here!

I do have an excuse though - this was Tim's last weekend at home - so we spent lots of time with the children (as well as lots of time packing and trying to remember things that he had forgotten!) We even managed to get out with both children on the bikes - and Katie started riding for the first time without stabilisers. She is on her "new" bigger bike - Graeme's old one and she is constantly apologising to people that it is blue and a "boy's" bike - I think I may have to treat the bike to a makeover for her.

What A Day

And yet I still remember to blog!

Tim went in for his first day of work today, to meet people and pick up laptop before flying out to Boston, MA on Sunday for four weeks of training. But, when he got home, he said he has been offered a fast track management thingy which will mean a further nine weeks training, of which six will also be in Boston! So it looks like I am going to be spending a lot of time with the children on my own over the rest of this term.

We also got an email to say we can have tickets to go and see QI being filmed in London - and amazingly enough, it's on a day that Tim is in the country! So, assuming we can find babysitters, we are going to see Stephen Fry, Alan Davies and 3 other celebrities talking about silly "quite interesting" facts and fiction!! Cool :)

We've had a fantastic day today as the sun has been shining - spend the morning at Legoland in Windsor with the whole family - was a shame that it was mobbed but we managed a few rides, and having renewed our annual passes we can go again soon when it is quieter. Got home at around 1.30pm and decided to have a BBQ - and then spent the entire afternoon munching - combining a late lunch with an early tea. Now Katie is in bed, Graeme is watching TV with Daddy and I am relaxing on the computer. Bliss! Long live the Easter holidays!

Tools for Photoshop Elements : Text Paths

I know that the one thing I really didn't like about photoshop elements was that I couldn't manage text along a path - and was one of the main reasons I ended up with PSCS3. So, as soon as I started designing, I brought out some text paths that PSE users could use - and now I'm releasing some more - they will be released next Wednesday, but you can have a sneaky peek here now!

Firstly, all the swirly text paths you could ever need (I hope):

Secondly, 4 different wave shapes - the text paths both along the wave and in the wave.
To celebrate these releases, I have decided to give away some freebies for you all - the alphabet. I will be trying to upload one a day for you - so in 4 weeks you should have the entire alphabet. My intention is to put them up in alphabetical order - but if you want one sooner than that (for example you want an "R" now!!!), let me know in the comments box and I will try and put them up next for you. Alternatively, you will be able to buy the entire alphabet in store soon!

What's great about these text paths is that you can change the words, the font, the colour, the size and so on and so forth.

New Header

I'm having fun now I've discovered how to change my header!! This one uses pieces from my Taste of the Orient kit - and has spaces for photos (scary!).

I'm playing with birds at the moment (digital ones, not real ones) - I've decided to try and do some paper-pieced birds with real fluffy feather tails, but they are proving difficult to put it mildly! Feathers are not the easiest things to work with in real scrapping, and are even harder to either create digitally, or to extract!

..well, not a lot really! I have been doing some spring cleaning and have made a start on the kitchen - emptying all the cupboards, cleaning them and sorting out all the food (binning stuff which is out of date - how did I end up with food colouring with a BBE date of 2002?), cleaning the fridge and removing all the yucky, broken and excessive magnets and today I steam cleaned all the chairs so they are approximately cream again (why did we choose cream chairs when we had a young baby at the time? Although despite being used by 2 young children for 5 years, they aren't in bad condition!)

......no blogging from me for ages - I'm a naughty girl!

But lots has been happening in my life, I promise - life does seem to get in the way sometimes.

First things first - don't you think my blog looks pretty? It's all courtesy of Courtney Wilson - she has a fantastic series of products called "Beautify Your Blog" - which come with a choice of backgrounds, tags and headers for your blog - and complete, easy to follow instructions (plus a very fast email response when I couldn't get it to work immediately!) Took me all of 15 minutes to create this new look (and 10 of those were me doing something silly).

Other stuff - It's my baby boy's seventh birthday today - and he has had a fantastic weekend. He wanted a lego party so we had five of his friends for 2 hours of lego, lego and more lego - splitting into teams to see who could build the tallest tower, building cars and racing them down a track to see whose design was the fastest (my particular favourite was the one that came almost last as it kept spinning round in circles!) and general free-build in which they all seemed to create star-wars space ships! My particular pride and joy? Graeme asked me to make him a lego man cake - I thought he meant a photo on a cake at first, but he said "no Mummy, a lego man - like this one (he showed me a little Exo-Force man) but a lot bigger and made of cake". "ahhhhh" said I, "OK!" and so I tried. I am not someone who bakes much - so decided a simple Madeira cake would mean I wouldn't have to sandwich two cakes together. So I made two 8 inch square Madeira cakes (involving 10 eggs, 20 oz butter, 20 oz sugar and 20 oz flour!) and whilst they were baking I found a lego man template online - printed it out and added the exo-force hair and cut it out. Once cool, I put the cakes together, placed the template on top and cut round. Then used lots of roll-out icing to ice it. And here is the finished result:

Graeme loved it! Loved the way it looked and loved the way it tasted too. Perfect!

My life - I applied for a place on a PGCE (postgraduate certificate of education) secondary physics course in January and had my interview at the start of March. I have been offered a place as long as I look round a few more secondary schools and observe some lessons next term. So, in September I will be a full-time student again - learning how to teach 11-18 year olds science! What is most daunting is I will be in a school right from the start actually teaching 3 days a week (with help - I hope!). So a lot of my time recently has been spent looking through Physics, Chemistry and even Biology textbooks to brush up on knowledge that hasn't been used for 10 years (or almost 20 years in the case of biology!)

Designing - I'm still putting up more products in my store over at Plain Digital Wrapper - both for commercial use and for personal use. My latest additions for commercial use include some peacock feathers, lace and curly ribbons. And I have a new kit as well - Taste of the Orient, which I really enjoyed producing as I loved the colours and the theme meant lots of pretty floral papers and elements.

Plenty more stuff going on, but that's all these tired fingers can manage at the moment- and if you have managed to get to the end of this post I am very impressed - shouldn't you be doing something more interesting??

I thought I would show you a couple of the (many) Christmas cards I have made this year! To start with, here is one using images from Pink Petticoat - I love the Lola Rose collections as they are fun and modern and different from the traditional Christmas images.

I have coloured the images using ink from Distress & Brilliance Ink pads and a water brush - I had lots of fun creating messy splodges of ink all over my wipe clean mat - my fingers got quite messy too and I remember Katie being amazed that Mummy could get painty fingers! The edges of the card were inked and placed above a strip of Merry Christmas paper on top of a pearlescent card.

However, I do like tradition too - so here are is a tree also from Pink Petticoat. Again, coloured using a waterbrush and ink pads, then simply mounted onto a card using some pretty ribbon underneath.

I am launching three new products this week - and one of them is another set of layered templates. I wanted to show how easy these are to use, so did four layouts using them. It took me less than 40 minutes to scrap all four pages - and that included finding photos and kits! Given that I used my kits for all the pages I thought I could give these away as quickpages. Although I normally don't celebrate Halloween, I have been caught up in all the excitement as the PlainDigitalWrapper team start putting together a kit for Halloween - keep your eyes peeled in the forum towards the end of the month is all I can say!

I made slightly more than I meant to - having got carried away with creating cute Halloween felt creatures, but now I want to put them up in store, I am in a quandary - I don't know what to call them! I don't know what to call the pack, or what to call them individually, for I feel that the witch, vampire and monster need names!

OK, I have been having great fun creating templates that have journaling "on a line". This is because when I started scrapping I had photoshop elements which is a fantastic program, but the one thing it doesn't do that I loved on layouts was journaling on a path. So, for all those scrappers out there that love PSE as much as I do, but want to journal on a path - I present to you my new series of templates - Swirly Journaling! A set of 4 layered psd templates with journaling on some fun paths.
For you to be able to use these templates, your program needs to be able to read psd files. As for as I know, this should include PSE (3 upwards), PS and PSP. And I would like to give you a sample, to make sure your program is compatible - here is one template that wasn't swirly enough to fit in with the rest of the series:

OK - here's a free template for you.

I produced this LO over at Gotta Pixel for a challenge there - to include 8 random objects in a LO (house, school, red, flower, person, something you love, sports, animal) so I decided to do a year in pictures - each picture represents a month. I used Daisy Delight by Lynne Simmons to produce this:

And someone asked me for a template - so here it is. This is a layered PSD file, so is only any good if you can use a PSD file - as far as I know that means PSE, CS and PSP can. If you can't use it, let me know what program you use and what you can see and I'll see what I can do! Download it here

I'm going to try (and please note the word "try") to give you a new template every Friday. If there is anything in particular you want (like lots of photos, blank space, swirls, stars, shapes...) let me know and I'll see what I can do!

OK, I know - I'm bad - really bad! No blogging from me for ages! No excuses this time - just me not blogging!

But I know how to make it up to the few of you who are still checking up on me from time to time!

I decided to take up the challenge over at Purple Paper Flowers and enter the design contest. I forgot (or hoped that it would not be the case) that these are normally popularity contests, so have been disappointed with the reaction to my previews. HOWEVER, I have thoroughly enjoyed being challenged and feel I have risen to the challenges, even though I have stepped out of my "comfort zone" to create these mini kits.

So, what do you, my readers, think? Like? Love? Hate? Different opinions for each kit? They are all very different as the challenges we were given were so different!

First Challenge - dots, circles and doodles - I produced fairy at the bottom of the garden:

.... to make up for my lack of posting recently.

I do have an excuse - I DID finally move house! And we are now in, unpacked and pretty much sorted! Woohoo! So now it's just the chaos of Christmas to look forward to - all the planning, buying and so on and so forth over the next few weeks.

I haven't been very busy on the designing front - I did create a couple of new products - a new kit called Home Sweet Home which I made so I could do our new home cards:

And here's the card I made:

I added our new address, printed them out onto normal paper, rounded the corners using my handy corner rounder and mounted onto dusky pink card - slightly larger than the paper, also with rounded corners and finished with a small piece of real ribbon diagonally across the corner.

Speaking of Christmas, I created something totally different to my normal style, inspired by the wrap-around ribbons that seem to be swamping the market at the moment - I thought they would look great on a bauble or candy cane - so this is what I did:

Well today is Katie's first real session at pre-school, and I have two whole hours to myself with no children for what feels like forever! She had a trial session on Monday where I went along too and she absolutely loved it, so I am forseeing no problems at he moment (but of course, you never can tell!)

We might actually be moving house!! finally!!! After all the hiccups earlier in the year, our new buyers have moved really quickly and it looks like we may exchange on Friday with a view to moving 2 weeks on Monday! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Although I really shouldn't count my chickens yet - there is still the possibility of someone pulling out before we all sign contracts on Friday........ Major downside of moving (apart from all the major hassle, packing, unpacking etc.) is that I up likely to be disconnected from the internet for several days and I don't know how I'll cope! OK, so I'm semi-joking, but I spend a lot of time every day doing things online and it's going to be weird missing out on all the "gossip" from friends who I only meet online!

And I've created a new kit - "All That Jazz" which I'm really pleased with - I though black, white and red might be a bit stark but the silver I've added softens the whole kit and I think it's quite stylish - need to make a few pages now!! Arrrr....shiver me timbers!Ha' ye heard that it be talk like a pirate day on Wednesday (19th September) ? Time to arrrrr and ahoy and avast!Seriously, I've like pirates for a while now as I was very into Puzzle Pirates when it was first launched (I was one of the beta testers) - I haven't had time to play for the last year or more, but I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time - a multiplayer game where you got to talk like a pirate - I remember lots of "aye aye cap'n" and "ahoy" along with sailin' and bilgin' !! Being female, I be a lass of course (or wench if ye be so inclined!)Having found out about talk like a pirate day, I decided to try and do some pirate-y style scrapping elements and word arts and thought that perhaps, you, my readers may like to have some for yourself! No idea how many of ye have little pirates (but coming up to Halloween it be possible that there be a few!) but hope these come in useful for ye! Remember to stop back in a few days time fer more piratey-fun!!!!!

CT Call for Kanga Kreations

I know, I know - no blogging recently - bad me :)

I do have excuses (as ever) - trying to keep up with two small children during the school holidays, a week away in Devon camping (lovely break, despite torrential rain for the first few days!) and organising a birthday and birthday party for Katie who turned 3 at the start of September.

However, it is now back to normal- Graeme has started school and Katie will be starting pre-school at the end of the month, so I can get on with designing again. I've just completed a new kit which will be in store soon, called Circle of Life and I've decided I need some more members on my CT to help me create some layouts! We have a fun private CT forum full of suggestions, kits in progress and silly chit chat and I'm a pretty laid-back kind of person, so there will never be any major pressure on you!

...at blogging, am I?! I have a hundred different excuses - the most recent being our buyers pulling out of buying the house just days before exchange of contracts. So, lots of ranting later, we are (almost) back to square one - now to try and find a buyer ASAP before the seller of the house we want goes elsewhere! Also looks like my father-in-law may be very ill, so life in our household is anything but happy or jolly at the moment.

Still, life goes on as they say. Despite everything that has been going on recently, I had a brainwave and decided to create some "make-your-own" word art. Have you ever wanted to create word art but weren't sure where to start? I've put together some themed words to get you started - each pack comes with 5 different fonts which are the same in each pack so you can mix and match. I had fun creating some example word arts, which I am will be giving away here on my blog! I will zip them up and upload them to 4shared soon for you.

Missed A Day but Still Going Strong

But I do have an excuse - Graeme was running a high temperature yesterday and I spent the whole day trying to entertain him (he just wanted to flop and watch television) and Katie (who wanted to be outside running around and burning lots of energy). I ended the day completely exhausted!!!

Today he was back at school because although he claimed he still had a tummy ache, he was bouncing on my bed at 7am this morning and it was only when I mentioned school that he reckoned he was still ill! Only 2 more days after today to go though.

Has anyone played desktop tower defense yet? I keep getting distracted by it! basically you have to build a maze of towers that fire at little alien-creatures to try and stop them escaping. I've been wasting far too many hours!!!

I'm afraid this one is only suitable for those people with photoshop or a scrapping program that can "read" PSD files as it is a layered template. I love using a mixture of different shapes and this template is no exception - just using a mix of square and circular photos rather than all rectangular can add a lot of interest to a layout.

We're into the last week of term here and then it's six weeks of summer holidays to fill (hopefully with a house move!!!!) Then next term Graeme moves into year one - I can't believe he has finished reception already! And Katie starts at Chestnuts - just two afternoons a week, but it's going to feel very odd. She is so looking forward to it and because her birthday falls so early in September she will be one of the oldest in her academic year.

Anyone got any good suggestions as to how to fill the summer holidays? We normally do a lot of going out for picnics/ visiting playparks. riding bikes etc. but the weather so far this year has been dreadful (lots and lots of rain might be doing wonders for the garden, but it makes outdoor games really difficult!) so I think I need some indoor backups! My children are 5 and 2 if that's any help!

Not that I can take much credit for this alpha! This has been donated by Al over at actionfx. If you haven't been there before, make sure you go and visit! There are lots of video tutorials which show you how to make some of your own elements, and how to get great effects (video tutorials click here). There are also over 90,000 layer styles, brushes, actions and custom shapes. Although they have been produced for the latest photoshop (so there are things for photoshop CS2 and CS3 mainly) all of the brushes and shapes work in most earlier versions and in photoshop elements. Do you have to pay? Well there are a few examples for free (click here!), but if you want to access all of them (and there are a *lot* - I originally got a weeks subscription and upgraded to a year because Al just keeps bring out more that I want!) you do need to buy a subscription. But go over and have a play with the free stuff and see what you think!

Al provided the alpha in a single png layer which I have included in the zip, but I have also split it into individual files for those that prefer it that way!

Turning over a New Blogging Leaf

Wow is it really four months since I last blogged? Is anyone still visiting me at all?!? If you are reading this, then please say "hello"!
Life here is pretty chaotic at the moment - we are still trying to sell and buy a house - we got a buyer for our house way back in April after changing to a new estate agent (old agent had it for 16 weeks and didn't sell, new agent sold it within the first week!!) and we found a house we love - but there have been problems all the way down the line. Major planning issues with the house we are buying is causing a headache and a half, but our buyers have been having a few hiccups too so at least we don't feel like we are holding them up too much!
My Virgin Vie at Home selling has been going well - I'm trying to do 3 parties a month and normally managing it (although August is looking empty - anyone in the UK (preferably Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey area) want to host a party and get lots of goodies?!?!?) and I'm still really enjoying it!
The kids are fine, although Katie really sometimes proves she is 2 with lots of "no", "me turn", "me still hungy", "no", "don't want to" etc. !! Graeme is still thoroughly enjoying full-time school and his reading is progressing extremely well - he loves reading a bedtime story to me before I read one to him. However, with just two weeks till the end of term and the summer holidays he is definitely tired now!
As for scrapping and designing? Well, I ended up really uninspired with colour for designing a few months back so ended up making some commercial use products and had great fun with overlays and custom shapes. Now I have started to design again and I should have a new kit out soon - lots of pretty purple and turquoise with beads and metal accents!
As soon as its out in store I'll be putting up a code here for you all to use - so watch this space!

Yay I hear you crying (that's if anyone is still visiting me after I haven't posted in over a week!)

I did end up enjoying my birthday but I don't seem to have paused for breath since - I've been out every night this week - one pamper evening (unfortunately I was doing the pampering rather than receiving it!), 2 meetings and then last night I went to see Lenny Henry!!! That was my birthday present from my husband - 2 tickets to go and see Lenny Henry live at our local theatre and he was superb!!!! I haven't laughed so much in ages and it did me a lot of good! (no idea if Lenny Henry is known outside the UK - he's a famous comedian here!)

It's My Birthday and I'll Cry If I Want to!

What is it with my life at the moment? We decide we want to move to a bigger house, so put the house on the market - and *everything* goes wrong - so far:

the shower broke completely - bought new one (£200) and plumbed it in ourselves
when on grill function, the oven seemed to overheat and melted the dials used to control it (will need to be either fixed or replaced - probably around £500)
the garage door went "ping" and a large chunk of metal spring came off (going to cost around £400)
The pipes under the sink are leaking - didn't discover this until there was a pool of water on the floor - we've tightened all the nuts and now the joints are only slightly weeping - need to let the cupboard dry out completely and get someone in to see if they can redo the pipework (cost unknown, likely to be big!)
The outdoor tap was leaking into the hosepipe, which when we had some cold weather meant the nozzle on the end of the hosepipe cracked as the water turned to ice (cost - £15 and time to change a washer)
the sink was blocked on Sunday morning - half an hour of taking u-bend off and clearing blockage solved this, but I felt like banging my head against a brick wall!

Then there are several niggly things that need fixing/clearing - like the taps in the downstairs toilet that need new washers and the gutters that need clearing because they are overflowing slightly.

Dinky Dinosaurs

I'm going for cute with the next kit -I've been doodling some dinosaurs!! Well, here it is - the final installment of my valentine heart alpha - the upper case!! You can download it here. I wonder if the number of people downloading it will exceed that of last week's lower case which a had a staggering 700+ downloads!

The lower case is now no longer available for download, but I will be putting a combination of all the heart alphas, plus plain silver and heart "beads" up at Plain Digital Wrapper in the near future.

The numbers have already been downloaded 300 times, but I will leave them up until the end of the week so that they have been available for a week too.

As to my life - Katie's spots have finally crusted over so (I think) she is now safe to go out which is a good thing as it is half term here so I have 2 children and lots of time to occupy! I'm also husband-less for a few days as he has gone climbing in Scotland with his brother-in-law. Apparently the snow and ice is fantastic (I think he used the term"stonking") but he wasn't so impressed with the gusts of wind - they were walking back down the hill and a gust of wind "picked up up off his feet and threw him against a rock" - so a trip to hospital followed to have a few stitches in his knee to stop all his blood escaping! He sounds fine, so I'm guessing all is OK really - but the camera was in his pocket and it doesn't work now, so probably also hit the rock with some force. Luckily it is our old digital camera - the little Fuji that we bought back in 2001 when we went to Australia, but I loved it - it took fantastic macro photos of flowers, which I can't work out how to do with our newer Canon PowerShot camera!

Wow - just re-read that and it sounds like I am more concerned about the camera than my husband! *Not* the case - it's just he has insisted *lots* of times that he is absolutely fine and they went climbing the following day - whereas the camera is definitely dead!

After deciding that it had been too long since she was exposed to chicken pox, I discovered 3 spots on Katie's tummy last night - and this morning she is covered in them! Poor girl even has a couple inside her ears and every time I look at her there seem to be more. At least this explains the grouchiness and general "I feel ill" whinging that's been happening recently!
Internet is majorly hicuppy for me again today - to the extent that husband even rang the ISP - to be greeted with a loverly recorded message saying that customers in our area could be experiencing difficulties due to a fault - but nothing more than that. Don't know about any of you, but I always feel lost without my internet connection!!

Having been downloaded over 300 times already, I'm wondering whether this alpha will beat the popularity of the glitter hearts (over 550 downloads). An upper case is now currently in "the works" - I've made the letters into metal, but they still need splitting into separate png files and the little hearts adding to them - but they will be ready for next Monday.

If you like the silver alpha, then you will probably like my new kit - a very similar alpha in copper with little beads is just part of this huge kit - there are (currently) 15 papers and 43 elements - I'm still trying to decide if I want to add more!! But, I'm still really bad at deciding on names - this one is floral, spring-like and has lots of copper wire - any ideas?!?! I will be posting this at DST too and will be giving away the full kit when it is put up for sale to the person who comes up with my favourite name!

Beginning to think Katie may just have a rotten cold, but whatever it is I hope it goes away soon - she is so clingy and whingy it is untrue! Last night I even ended up having a couple of glasses of wine in the evening because I was feeling like I had had such a bad day!
I've changed my mind again - I'm not going to do word art for next weeks freebie because at least one of the quotes I liked is probably copyrighted, and I'm not going to start in the copyright grey area - far too complicated! So, instead, you will be treated to a valentines alpha - so far I have done part of the lower case and, assuming I have time, there will also be an upper case!

Mid Week Mumblings

Where is the week going? Katie has a cold and slight temperature at the moment (she was exposed to chicken-pox a week ago, so part of me is expecting spots any day now!) so we haven't been going out much - but we've been doing lots indoors! Playing trains, doing jigsaws, painting, play dough, colouring!!! The one thing she actively doesn't want to play with is dolls, despite having been given lots of them by people who know she has an older brother!
Mind you, it has given me some time to start work on a new kit - I've decided on a floral theme, with lots of purple and green and some copper thrown in for good measure! Want a sneak peak?!
Oh, go on then, you twisted my arm!

I'm working on some heart themed word art at the moment - so that's likely to be Monday's freebie, unless of course I finish it in super fast time and then I'll give it away as an extra tomorrow!

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had snow overnight and woke up to this:

Please remember I live in the south of England, and we don't get snow very often at all - and even more rarely snow that lies on the ground!!!! Mind you, it is now 10am and most of it has melted and all the trees are dripping. So by the end of the day it will all be gone. Both children were very excited - Katie kept on shouting "snow" every 2 minutes this morning. So we set off to school 20 minutes earlier than normal so Katie could walk (rather than be in her buggy) and Graeme could play in the snow for a bit - I even remembered to take the camera with me:

Don't know whether you can see, but Katie has a slightly fat lip and a horrid graze under her nose - she insisted on running along the path yesterday with her hands in her coat pockets - and fell flat on her face (literally!), cutting her lip and grazing her face and knees.

Internet is being frustrating today - I have access to some things and not others - no email, no hotmail, no yahoo, no hello - no communication at all. And then of the sites I normally visit, some I can get to and others I can't. Really weird! And I can't get onto my ISP website either to find out what exactly is wrong!!!!

And there was me worrying that the hearts were a bit boring - in just over 24 hours since I put them up they have been downloaded 300 times!!!!! (although how many of those are duplicate downloads because 4shared sometimes hiccups, I don't know) At least I know it's not going to run out like yousendit does. Anyone have any likes/dislikes as far as file sharing sites go?
We've had a good day today - my latest parcel from Virgin Vie arrived today which had a few goodies in for me plus lots of bags I need to hand out to people who went to a party last week. Had lots of fun which was good as I was a bit worried about doing a party for my mum and her friends - but the Freeze Frame anti-aging range went down a treat!!!!
I'm still trying to get everything perfect over in the store at PDW!!! It's a lo of work, a lot of fun and a fantastic learning experience at the moment - I'm sure it will be easier once I know exactly what I'm doing and only hvaing to put up the newest kit I have created!

New Home!

I'm so excited -I've found a new home!!!
I'm now selling at Plain Digital Wrapper (PDW) and my designs are found under Kanga!! So far I've only managed to get a couple of things up in store (including Driftwood Dreams), but all my designs will be up there soon.
This means I will be needing a Creative Team to start working with my kits soon - anyone interested?!? As you all know, I'm new to this (although I've been on several CTs), so it's all going to start off very informally. Please see this post for how to apply.
Far too excited to write anything else at the moment - will be back again soon with a few more freebies and more ramblings soon I'm sure!

Naming Kits

Is one of the hardest parts!! My latest kit was inspired by a picture of a beach and the sea, and this is it so far. But I can't think of a title! I still have papers and elements in my head that I want to make, but I''m sure someone out there can come up with a title for me! Whoever comes up with the name I choose can have the kit for free! The alpha and some of the elements are a distressed/stained wood effect.

I've also been having fun dressing up "dolls" at blessthisc hick - anyone else had a go yet? it's a lot of fun! My only problem was I couldn't have a computer and a glass of wine next to my chick!

Well it looks like you all still want glitter - over 100 downloads so far of the winter glitter accessories! Monsters seem to be slightly less popular though!! Trying to make a start on my new kit at the moment - I used a beach picture as inspiration for this one, so it's likely to be in turquoise and brown with (hopefully) lots of swirls and grunge, and I'm working on some footprints too..... I've also succumbed to atomic cupcake and their actions, and boy am I having fun with them - you'll be seeing plenty of alphas from me in my kits in the near future - it's just a case of deciding which one!!!
Graeme still seems to be enjoying school, which is a good thing, and Katie and I seem to be managing OK without him, although lunchtime is quite a lot quieter which is strange! In fact, it's not going to be *that* long until she starts pre-school and then I will have that difficult point in my life where I have to decide what I want to do!!! This weekend we took the two of them to Coral Reef - the local swimming pool with lots of fun things - big slides, small slides, things that squirt water etc. - they LOVED it, despite Katie swallowing quite a lot of water!!! In fact if you mention swimming at all, she jumps up and down and waves her arms around shouting "wim wim wim!!" Other than that, we had a nice quiet relaxing weekend, and now it's Monday and another week has started. Ho hum! Onwards and upwards!

Why does everything always happen at once- it feels like everything has gone wrong this week.
In the "real" world - I enjoyed doing the Virgin Vie at Home consultancy so much that I upgraded after Christmas and now have the most divine range of jewellery to show off (along with lots of yummy bath and shower products) - but of the four parties I had booked in for January, three have cancelled, leaving me with just the one -which has really got me down - I am going to have to really push to find some more people to have a party - it's not like it's difficult - they just need to invite some friends over for some fun pampering and I do all the work - there's not even any obligation to buy anything and if people do spend money, the hostess ends up with lots of freebies! I doubt there is anyone that reads my blog who lives near enough to me to have a party, but if you're out there- do yell!!!
And then in the digi-world, the store I am selling at is closing - fabulous news for Rebecca whose store it was - she's got a place at Plain Digital Wrapper to sell, but that means she has to give up her store - I've not got the time or energy to take it over - after all, I am only just starting out as a designer, and with only my stuff in the store, there aren't going to be a large number of customers!!!
So, I've started applying to some stores to see if I can find a new home. In the meantime, I will be looking to find my own Creative Team to use some of my kits - I'm going to give away a sample of my latest kit - Little Monster - on my blog tomorrow for anyone who would like to apply to be on my CT. I would then like you to create a LO with it and fill in a short review form, along with giving me some details about yourself. Full details will be given tomorrow. Everyone who completes and uploads a LO will get the full Little Monster kit whether or not they become part of my CT.
Apart from that, Graeme started school last week and had his first full day today - he absolutely loves it, to the extent that he wanted to wear his school uniform at the weekend - we compromised and he was allowed to wear his school socks! Despite him not being around during the day, my life seems to be really busy - I think it's just the whole getting back into a routine after the Christmas break, and being back on my own again after two weeks of husband being around and helping out.

Here's to a fabulous 2007!
I hope you all enjoyed a very merry Christmas and have started 2007 in good health and spirits - I know I have! I had a wonderful time over the festive period, and am now coming down to earth with a bump - Graeme is starting primary school on Thursday morning and I still haven't labelled all his school uniform and I need to find his new school shoes - I know I put them somewhere safe, but can't remember where!
I'm glad you all enjoyed my glitter elements in the run up to Christmas, and it sounds like you still want more, so I will be doing some soon - I like the idea of some Valentine themed ones, along with some spring flowers and some Easter ones slightly later in the year - I'm not sure I will be up to putting one up each day (it took a lot of dedication, time and effort to manage that every day in December!) so I think it will probably be a weekly thing - once a week I will put up a selection that will be available for that week and that week only before I put them up in store for sale. I'm going to give myself a short break first, but will announce on various forums when I do start putting them up on my blog.
I have just put up my latest kit "Little Monster" in store - I had great fun making this, especially the alpha. It took a long time to make, but I really love how it turned out - each letter and number has an eye and a big open mouth full of teeth!
I was also asked by Michelle Swadling of Gotta Pixel if I would be willing to make some quickpages using some of her kits - having been on the creative team there for a while I leapt at the chance - I love her kits! So far I have done two albusm, both of which are for sale at Digital Freebies - Winter Wonderland and Boys Will be Boys - I'm now working on one using her birthday fun kit. I've been concentrating so much recently on all my other CT work and designing that I had forgotten how much fun creating quickpages was - I can create a page without worrying about finding that perfect photograph!

Twas the Night Before Christmas....

....Well it's the morning, but hey - it's Christmas Eve! Does anyone else still get that child-like "almost Christmas" excitement? My problem now is it is followed by a rush of "have I got everything we need to celebrate over the next couple of days" panic! I'm fine as long as my turkey is reserved properly! I'm picking it up today at 1pm (in theory) but keep panicking about what I do if it isn't there - my husband keeps telling me not to be silly, I have a receipt and of course they'll have a turkey! But what if they don't??? We can't have Christmas without turkey and the only thing I have in stock that vaguely resembles it is chicken nuggets!!!!!!
Today, we have the final piece of my Christmas glitter element pack. It has been so successful and I love all the comments people have left me that I am considering doing a similar daily download sometime in the New Year. I just have to think of a theme and start making the glitter! So if anyone has any ideas that they would like as glitter, please let me know! 3 Wise Men

Sorry for the lateness of this morning's posting - we had a lovely lie-in this morning as the children didn't disturb us till 9am. Yes, I will repeat that -9am!!!!! And if you didn't know, they are 2 and 4, so 9am is LATE!!!!!! So, it is now 10.30am and we have just about got out of bed, got dressed and had breakfast so far.
And it is now officially Christmas in our household as Daddy finished work yesterday - so we have a couple of days of "is it Christmas yet?" still to endure, along with a little bit of cleaning but apart from that we are just about done - the last big ob was wrapping all of the presents from Father Christmas - that was done last night whilst I was babysitting (2 hours it took me!!!).
Today's glitter is my personal favourite - the three wise men on their camels. I've decided most of my readers must have already gone away for Christmas as I was down to half numbers of hits yesterday. ....and 3 more glitter elements (well 4...) All these last three are the slightly more religious themed ones - today we have a shepherd (and I thought he looked lonely so I created him a sheep - so today's links have a zip file with shepherd and sheep in them). Tomorrow will be the 3 wise men (probably my favourite of all these glitter elements) and Christmas Eve will be the baby Jesus in the manger.

Snow Anyone?

So, does anyone have snow? Over here in southern England it very rarely snows - we get occasional flurries of white stuff, but IF it settles on the ground then it's gone within 24 hours! And we are unlikely to have any until January or February according to the weather forecasters as it is so mild. But, it has been foggy for the last 3 days and really weirdly it hasn't lifted - we normally get fog in the morning which then clears - but this stuff hasn't shifted since it arrived on Tuesday morning. So to make up for weird weather, I'm giving away snowflakes today!

Dentist wasn't too bad yesterday - my teeth are all still there (apart from the ones that were removed when I was younger because my mouth is "too small") and don't need anything doing to them - which is always a big relief, both for my sanity and for my purse! Having then subjected the children to a Tesco supermarket run for Christmas food I decided to be nice and took them to Whoosh (a soft play centre) for the afternoon, followed by McDonalds (HUGE treat!) for tea! Mind you that means I'm out of ideas for today and tomorrow to occupy them now - I may have to ring round some other mums to see if someone wants to come and play!

School is over...

Well at least Chestnuts is for Graeme - that was it - yesterday was his last day of preschool and now we only have a couple of weeks before he starts "real" school. He seems fine - it was his teachers that looked more upset - I think he may have been quite a "character"! So, I thought - a lovely lie in today because we don't need to get to school - except then I realised we have a dentist appointment at 9.30 am on the other side of town - great, my favourite occupation, going to the dentist! I know it's a completely irrational fear, but I just loathe going to the dentist. However, I want my children's teeth checked, so I have to go. Yum!
Anyway, enough of my ramblings - is your Christmas tree up yet? Ours was put up at the weekend, so I think it's time for a glittery Christmas tree to join your collection.

Late again.....

We were almost late for school this morning as Graeme didn't wake up until 8, and Katie emerged at 8.15! I am so glad we are only a few minutes walk from pre-school - it does make life in the mornings a lot easier!
